Brookenby wind turbines plans are back on

Revised plans for two wind turbines at Brookenby have been submitted to West Lindsey District Council.
In place of two turbines 67 metres high on the apron of the runway at the former RAF Binbrook site, are plans for two smaller turbines, with a 22m hub height and 34m tip height.
The earlier plan, first submitted in 2012, was withdrawn following outcry from local residents, who also feared the impact of the turbines on the local landscape. The MOD also said they would interfere with plane radar.
Now, landowner Melvyn Cross, owner of applicant Total Reclaims Ltd, says the smaller turbines will have less impact on nearby residents.
“I do not think they will see much of it. They might see the tips.”
He puts its chances of gaining approval at 50 per cent, saying if he does not get it, he will have to find another use for the site.
“It was a concrete pad, which we have crushed and got rid of. We have been trying to rent it out but it’s not good trying to rent things out over there.”
A report for West Lindsey District Council says the two 60kW Tozzi NNord TN60-24 wind turbines at Binbrook Technical Park would be sited so nearby residents would not hear the turbines or experience any shadow flicker. The medium-sized turbines were the latest design, aimed at operating in low-moderate wind speed areas.
“The site wishes to install two wind turbines to reduce its energy bills, which have been continuously rising year on year, consequently putting the business under increasing economic pressure.”
WLDC is seeking public comments but a decision is not expected until August.
