Plans for two wind turbines in Shropshire countryside withdrawn at 11th hour

Plans to build two turbines in the Shropshire countryside were today withdrawn at the 11th hour before a key meeting.

The 77-metre turbines at Criddon Hall Farm, near Upton Cressett, near Bridgnorth, had been recommended for refusal by Shropshire Council officers ahead of a meeting this afternoon.

But they were dropped by applicants Sharenergy shortly before Shropshire Council’s south planning committee started.

The authority had received more than 820 public comments about the plans.

Dr Chris Douglas, chairman of the Stop Bridgnorth Wind Farm Group, today said the group was delighted and hoped the withdrawal would be “an end to the matter”.

But the firm behind the turbines said it was still interested in erecting turbines in the area in the future and that another application could be submitted.

Jon Halle, from Sharenergy, said the group would look to modify the application to address the remaining concerns.
