Celebrate Global Wind Day with AWEA

Global Wind Day is a once-a-year opportunity to bring together wind power supporters from across the globe and celebrate the progress of clean, affordable wind energy. Though this year’s Global Wind Day is officially Sunday, June 15, AWEA will be hosting their celebration this Friday, June 13.

We will gather at 10 a.m. in McPherson Square Park (at Vermont Avenue NW and K Street NW) for our second annual Construct-a-Turbine Competition (Facebook event)

This is a team contest to build a model wind turbine. Prizes will be awarded to teams that complete their turbine the fastest, have the best turbine name, and – most importantly – have the most fun!

Global Wind Day celebrates the fact that today, wind turbines can be found in more than 75 countries around the world. In the United States, wind power keeps the lights on for the equivalent of more than 15.5 million homes across the country. In some states, wind provided more than 25 percent of all the power on the grid last year.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday morning at McPherson Square to celebrate American wind energy and wind power in the rest of the world!

Be sure to RSVP to Tim Morris by June 12 to secure a spot in the competition. Be sure to say whether you prefer to participate on a team or attend as a supporter. Team assignments will be on first come, first served basis.
