Wind farm developer talks to councillors

A wind farm developer has explained to councillors its plans to site some of the biggest turbines in the country in North Kesteven.
Swedish company Vattenfall is proposing to site up to 23 wind turbines measuring up to 150m each on 9sq km of land between Metheringham and Bardney at Nocton Fen and as part of its pre-application process has begun initial consultation with the local community and key stakeholders.
This included project manager Graham Davey giving a briefing last Tuesday to NKDC members.
When asked about visual impact Mr Davey said on a clear day the turbines could be seen for 30km. He added Vattenfall has a longstanding commitment to maximise, where it can, local business and job opportunities. The 50MW project would generate enough power for 47,000 homes; equivalent to every home in North Kesteven.
This consultation and feasibility stage is likely to last until late 2015. A formal application would be submitted to the planning inspectorate and brought to a formal meeting of the district’s planning committee when members would comment. These will be passed to the planning inspectorate which makes its recommendation to the Secretary of State.
Local objectors have formed campaign group, Protect Nocton Fen, and attended. They object to their height.
