Ministers overrule council decision on Musselburgh wind turbine

The Scottish Government has overturned a council decision to refuse planning consent for a wind turbine at Queen Margaret University.
East Lothian Council was told this week that an appeal by the university had been upheld by Scottish Ministers, following a recent visit to the Craighall Campus by Reporter Lance Guilford.
The application for the single triple-bladed turbine was thrown out by councillors in September because of its height and visual impact.
Consent was refused by a majority vote, on the recommendation of the council’s planning officials.
Fears were voiced at the time that the turbine, standing at 47 metres, would be the second tallest structure in the county, after the chimneys of Cockenzie Power Station.
Community councillors also expressed concern about its impact on residents in the Stoneybank area, who had already endured a number of problems – including inconsiderate parking – since the relocation of QMU to Musselburgh in 2007.
