Planners block Shropshire wind turbine project – again

Credit:  Shropshire Star | April 2, 2014 | www.shropshirestar.com ~~

Two turbines will not be built in Shropshire after councillors voted to turn down the application for a second time.

Councillors thought they had rejected plans two 150ft turbines north of Sydnall Farm in Middleton Priors last month.

But at yesterday’s Shropshire Council south planning committee meeting at Shirehall, Shrewsbury, they were informed the vote had only been half completed.

Campaigners against the turbines then had to wait nervously when a re-vote split councillors down the middle. Committee chairman David Evans, however, had the deciding vote and refused the application once again.

Councillors agreed the reason for rejection needed to be clearer, to help with any possible appeal from the applicants. The plans had been recommended for approval by the council’s own planning officers.

The reasons for refusal were the turbines would be located too close to the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, their visibility for tourists and residents would mean they had an adverse effect on the character of the area.
