Caucus plans forum on wind power plans

The Western Maine Legislative Caucus will sponsor a free public breakfast forum on proposed wind energy projects in northern Franklin County at 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at the University of Maine Farmington, Olsen Student Center.

The forum will include presenters with different perspectives on the two projects and wind energy in general.

Invited presenters include TransCanada Energy Ltd., which proposes a project on Kibby Mountain, and Maine Mountain Power, which has proposed a project for Black Nubble Mountain. Public hearings on both projects are anticipated in the fall.

Also attending will be an advocate and proponent of the projects, and David Publicover of the Appalachian Mountain Club speaking on his research on siting wind energy projects in Maine.

Links to information on proposed wind energy project, siting research and other information may be accessed through the Western Mountains Alliance Web site at www.westernmountainsalliance.org.

For more information: contact the Western Mountains Alliance at 778-3885 or e-mail tswain@westernmountainsalliance.org.
