Re: Province should abandon the Green Energy Act – March 8.
In his letter the provincial Conservatives’ opposition to the Green Energy Act, Guelph Progressive Conservative candidate Anthony MacDonald says, the act “has cost Ontario taxpayers $4 billion each year, making the cost of energy in Ontario skyrocket.”
There are more points that deserve to be heard that were not mentioned by MacDonald. For example, even environmentalists have become standoffish when it comes to wind energy projects, as they have invaded many of Ontario’s most scenic and ecologically rich areas.
In one case, it is reported that in order to have road access, the nest of a bald eagle (one of a handful) needed, with government dispensation, to be taken down along the shores of Lake Erie. Wind turbines destroy birds and disrupt wildlife, not to mention people’s lives.
Wind turbines are dividing communities as huge incentives are offered to farmers. Taxpayers are stuck with binding 20-year contacts that will add billions to hydro bills.
Wind power in Ontario is expensive and useless, as the government actually pays other jurisdictions to take surplus power off our hands that is generated when we don’t need it.
Taxpayers need to know that it was during Dalton McGuinty’s government, with the approval of Kathleen Wynne, that these initiatives came to be. As a result, your children will not inherit a burden, but a catastrophe.
Wind companies are now going to pay people $1,500 per year who are in proximity to the turbines providing they sign a contract of silence. Where is this money really coming from?
The next time you look at your hydro bill, look at the charges and you will see a fee for “debt retirement.” This fee has been on your bill for more than 15 years, after Ontario Power Generation took over the huge debt of Ontario Hydro. It was to be paid off, but that process will take longer, because these some of these collected funds have been diverted for other causes.
People need to get in touch with their local MPP and demand remedial action, and when the next government is formed, give this present sitting government a kick squarely between their rear pockets.
