City Council full of wind

The plan by Cincinnati City Council to “continue on all-green electricity” (March 14) is full of potholes.
First, it is not seen that there is an ample supply of “green” (solar, wind farms) electric power within the normal transmission distance. Under such cases, electricity will actually be provided by the adjacent coal-fired power station. The Cincinnati area will not enjoy the reduction of the carbon footprint.
Next, wind farms are the popular form of the minor amount of “green” energy available.
Do we know that it is truly “green” or is it like the miscalculated environmental “saving” resulting from the alcohol blended into auto fuel? Huge quantities of steel, copper and concrete are used for these structures, using huge amounts of energy to make and transport to remote locations.
The fact that large subsidies are needed to make wind farms possible should be a hint that they may also be environmentally unsound.
How many years of energy savings, with the typically half-time operation, are required to balance the energy used to make them?
Our council seems to believe “where ignorance is bliss, ’tis folly to be wise.”
