Appeal hearing continues

The appeal into the Bow Lake Wind Project approval is continuing in Sault Ste. Marie.
It’s expected that the respondent’s case will be heard this week with a total of 11 witnesses set to testify at the hearing.
The hearing is taking place at The Days Inn (formerly Travelodge) and is scheduled to begin Wednesday and Thursday at 9 a.m.
The hearing will adjourn later Thursday and recommence on Mon. March 24.
It’s expected that the hearing, held before the Environmental Review Tribunal, will conclude on Tues. March 25.
It’s purpose is to determine the outcome of the approval of the Bow Lake Wind Project.
The appeal was filed by James Fata, a seasonal resident, and an Ontario Ltd. numbered company, against the proposed facility.
The Ontario Ministry of Environment approved the 60-megawatt wind farm project in December.
The proposal calls for the wind farm to be located about 80 kilometres north of Sault Ste. Marie.
The wind farm is a partnership by BluEarth Renewables and Batchewana First Nations.
The 36-wind turbines are to be built on Bow Lake, just south of the Montreal River and close to the shores of Lake Superior.
Proponents said the wind farm will generate enough renewable electricity for about 15,000 homes.
Earlier, in October, it was announced that the Goulais Wind Farm project had been approved. An appeal hearing was also held on that project but a decision has not yet been rendered.
It is expected that the decision will be reserved by the board and then released at a later date.
