Ludlow MP welcomes votes to reject wind turbines

A decision to throw out plans for three wind turbines in the Shropshire countryside have been welcomed by the area’s MP.
Philip Dunne, whose Ludlow constituency includes Bridgnorth and surrounding villages, said there had been a great deal of feeling against the plans for one 250ft turbine at The Down and two 150ft turbines in Middleton Priors.
Mr Dunne said he believed the turbines would have had a detrimental effect on the local landscape. “Many residents have contacted me to make clear how opposed the community is to this development,” he said.
The three turbines were turned down by planners during Tuesday’s Shropshire Council south planning committee meeting.
Plans for one 250ft turbine on The Hills in The Down and separate plans for two 150ft turbines north of Sydnall Farm in Middleton Priors were both rejected because of the potential effects on the countryside.
The two turbines north of Syndall Farm had received no objection in principle from Ditton Priors Parish Council, which covers the area.
But they had attracted 29 objections, which raised concerns about their visual impact.
A vote saw the plans rejected on a majority of six councillors against and three in favour of the plans.
Mr Dunne said: “The Corvedale is one of the most beautiful areas of countryside in south Shropshire, whose landscape is enjoyed both by residents and thousands of tourists each year.
“I am pleased councillors listened to the community and respected the will of local people. This decision shows local people really can have a say over developments in their area. Many campaigners opposing the construction of these turbines addressed the planning meeting.”
