Wind farms receive double the wholesale price for the electricity they produce.
They are even paid to stand idle when there is too much electricity for the grid.
This subsidy is added on to electricity bills, driving up household costs and is worth more than £1 billion a year to wind farm owners.
The Treasury had become alarmed by the huge subsidies being harvested by wind farm developers so under a new scheme, to be introduced later this year, companies will have to sell their electricity to the national grid under a competitive bidding system.
Developers are already starting to abandon plans for new wind farms in Britain because they are “no longer financially viable” which just proves that they are only in it for the eye- watering subsidies.
Maf Smith, deputy chief executive of RenewableUK, the propaganda machine for the industry, said: “It’s obviously concerning that projects from one of the cheapest sources of renewable energy are being withdrawn.
If wind turbines are the cheapest I hate to think what others are costing.
Do people still believe the propaganda that the “wind is free”?
