Commissioners approve wind farm contract extension

The Randolph County Board of Commissioners Monday approved a multi-year extension for one of the two wind farms that had been due to begin construction in the county this year.

NextEra Energy Resources attorney Mary Solada told the commissioners NextEra would like to amend its economic development agreement regarding the proposed Bluff Point wind farm to be located north and east of Winchester. Solada said the wind farm, which tentatively calls for 2/3 of the project in Jay County and 1/3 in Randolph County was due to begin construction and to be completed this year.

NextEra representative Jeremy Ferrell said some economic issues have occurred that have changed their plans. Ferrell said although the tax credit available for the project expired at the end of 2013, it will still be available as long as they keep the project ready to go.

Solada said they currently plan to begin the project by the end of 2017 and to complete it by the end of 2018.
