Major windfarm plans launched; Energy company E.On wants to build 19 turbines near Carsphairn

Plans have been submitted for a major windfarm near Carsphairn.
Energy firm E.On are behind the bid to build 19 turbines at Quantans Hill.
The company claims it could generate enough electricity to power more than 35,000 homes but have “minimised the visual impact” on the countryside.
The development could be worth up to £285,000 a year to locals in the way of a community benefit fund.
A final decision on the proposal will be made by the Scottish Government’s energy consents unit.
In May last year E.On chopped 11 turbines from their proposals for the Glenkens site.
Instead of planning to build up to 30 125m-tall turbines at Quantans Hill, they changed their bid to 19 units at 130m.
Project developer Nick Taylor said: “We’d like to thank the community for the feedback they gave us at our public exhibitions, which we’ve taken on board.
“Since then we’ve undertaken further studies and found it would be beneficial to raise the turbine tip height from 125m to 130m.
“This would increase our ability to match the best turbine model to the characteristics of the site.”
