Groups opposing turbines and pylons link up

A meeting took place yesterday (Wednesday) evening between groups who are opposing plans to erect large-scale wind turbines and pylons for domestic and exported energy.
Over 200 groups were represented including those opposed to industrial wind turbines and the associated Grid 25 plan which Eirgrid are pursuing in an attempt to link dispersed wind energy projects for domestic use and for export.
Representatives from counties Mayo, Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath, Laois, Offaly, Kildare, Wexford and Waterford expressed their outrage at the scale of the plans.
A statement issued by the parties involved in the meeting said “there was broad agreement that Government policy had failed to honestly explain the linkage between Grid 25, massive planned wind turbine developments and numerous substations.
“There was also agreement that these plans represented an enormous threat to thousands of Irish families, our landscape and the economy.”
The statment went on to say there was evidence that wind energy was “incapable of any meaningful reduction in CO2 emissions, and along with the associated grid 25 developments will be hugely expensive and very damaging.”
It concluded by saying the groups involved would mount a joined up and vigorous campaign to stop these “destructive and fatally flawed” plans.
