Joy for campaigners as turbine appeal is dropped

Wind turbine campaigners are celebrating after a farmer backed out of a planning appeal just weeks before it was due to go before an inspector.
Ermine Farms Ltd had wanted to put two 35m wind turbines at Heath Farm in Normanby by Spital – but has withdrawn an appeal at the last minute.
Campaigner Richard Armstrong said: “I want to thank everyone for their valuable time.
“It is great to see so many villagers in Normanby, Owmby and other villages working as a group, supported by our parish councils and council members – Jeff Summers and Lewis Strange.”
West Lindsey District Council turned down the application at the start of the year saying the turbines would have a detrimental impact visually, detract from the rural character and impact on the appearance and amenities of land.
Before launching an appeal, the pig farmer submitted, and then withdrew, another identical application.
Ermine Farms scrapped the appeal after the Ministry of Defence wrote to the planning inspector with concerns about “unacceptable” interference to the air traffic control radar at RAF Waddington.
Campaigners had been worried about the impact turbines would have on horses, wildlife, road, safety, views of the open countryside and autistic children who use a local riding club.
Mr Armstrong said: “We have won again, for the third time and there is no coming back on this application – we did it.”
