Nenagh wind turbine group welcomes decision not to grant permission

Nenagh Wind Turbine Opposition Group (NWTOG) ahas welcomed the decision by North Tipperary County Council to refuse planning permission to Procter & Gamble for the development of a 131m wind turbine to the rear of its plant at Cooloholloga, Nenagh.
“We would to like to acknowledge the difficulties that the Council encountered in the build up to this decision. We feel that North Tipperary County Council have shown great courage in making the decision to refuse planning permission in this instance and have demonstrated their administrative strength in applying the planning regulations and guidelines in this case,” the group said in a statement this Tuesday.
A spokesperson said that the group believed that the efforts of NWTOG in requesting local people and residents to object to the plan had been vindicated as a result of this decision.
“e feel that this refusal is an acknowledgement of the many concerns expressed by the group and by the 126 residents who lodged submissions of objection to North Tipperary County Council, and the 644 local people who signed the NWTOG petition,” the spokesperson said.
However, the group said it had always stated that it was their belief that this matter will ultimately be decided on by An Bord Pleanala.
“We as a Group will also be lodging a submission to An Bord Pleanala should Procter & Gamble proceed to the next stage of the planning process.
“In the event that an appeal is lodged, we are very much aware that this could be a lengthy and indeed costly affair. We will not be able to match the huge financial resources to which a multinational like Procter & Gamble has access. However we are very much ready to do as much as we can in order to prevent the decision of North Tipperary County Council being overturned,” the group said.
NWTOG also urged Procter & Gamble to withdraw the planning application in light of the refusal to grant planning permission by North Tipperary County Council and to engage appropriately with the community to develop an alternative strategy that is mutually beneficial to all the stakeholders concerned.
