Roadway access approved for a second Tama County wind turbine project

A road improvement agreement was approved between Tama County and Southern Natural Resources ,LLC c/o Terra-Gen Power LLC, San Diego, Calif. The developer is wanting to develop one or more wind energy generation projects on real property in Crystal and Perry Township in Tama County.

The proposed area for construction of the turbines basically spans an area on north- south U.S. Highway 63 about one mile south of the Iowa Highway 96 junction 12 miles north of Toledo and includes nearby areas to the east and the west.

No reply to an email request for additional project information on he scope of the project to Terra-Gen Power had been rceived at News-Herald deadline.

The sites are east of a project completed near Gladbrook by Mid-America Energy in 2012.

The property is “burdened by and is adjacent to the vicinity of the county’s right of way” according ot the information provided.

The developer would like the use of the rights of way in an improved condition in order to construct, operate and maintain the projects.

Southern Natural Resources would like to acquire the right to enter the rights of way for purposes of building and improving existing and future roads, access routes and entranceways on the Right of Way for the projects.

This would include 190th Street from 4660 feet east of H Avenue to II Avenue; 190th Street from II Avenue east to J Avenue; 190th Street from 1825 feet east of US 63 to K Avenue; 200th Street from II Avenue east to 380 feet west of US 63; 200th Street from M Avenue east to N Avenue; M Avenue from 1020 feet north of 220th Street north to 210th Street; O Avenue from 200th Street north to 195th Street; O Avenue from 195th Street north to 3000 feet south of US Highway 63.

Approval would be for the use of right of ways to build and improve with rock cover any existing and future roads, access routes and entranceways, on or to provide access to, the Property along with any related drainage improvements, culverts, bridges or other civil related work within the Rights of Way.

All is subject to the terms and conditions of the Tama County Road Improvement Policy, Upgrade from Dirt (Area Service B) to rock (Area Service A) .

The county shall cooperate with the Developer with respect to its permitted activities on the Rights of Way, but at NO COST OR EXPENSE to Tama County. The county will have the right to inspect the road improvements to ensure they are constructed in accordance with the Policy and County’s other road improvement requirements.

In other business:

2nd District Supervisor Jordan was appointed to the EMS Advisory Board for the Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD).

Claims approved for payment covering the past week totaled $340,958.
