Winds of change trumpeted for Palmer

Meetings have been called by both sides of the fence over the Palmer Wind Farm development.
TrustPower held its first community consultation day on October 16 and plans to hold community workshops on November 7 and November 8 to discuss their vision of building up to 130 wind-powered turbines towering between 135 metres and 165m on the ranges from Palmer to Sanderston.
A TrustPower spokesperson said community engagement would help shape the final project feasibility and design and will precede the official public exhibition process to be undertaken by the Mid Murray council, once the planning application was lodged.
“The input will help identify and address any potential impacts of the proposed Palmer Wind Farm,” the spokesperson said.
“The application will then be lodged with the Mid Murray council Development Assessment Panel for determination later in the year.”
The spokesperson said the community meeting was an opportunity for the community to meet the wind farm project team and find out some facts about the proposal.
“We will continue to hold a further two series of community information days in the coming months to provide updated information on the project and the outcome of investigations that are currently being undertaken,” they said.
“Concurrently, we will also be running a series of facilitated workshops that will enable community members and stakeholders to explore issues and the benefits of the proposed Palmer Wind Farm.
“The workshop will provide a forum for stakeholders to work in small groups to raise and debate issues and work with TrustPower on how the wind farm can benefit the community.”
For people wanting to explore arguments against the wind farm proposal, the Eastern Mount Lofty Ranges Landscape Guardians will be holding a meeting at Palmer on October 30.
Guardians secretary Paul Kay said it would be the second meeting called by the group, which have been fighting a similar proposal in the Keyneton area.
“After a bumper turnout at Collier Park Pavilion, Palmer on October 17, we are meeting there again on October 10, to discuss the TrustPower proposal to install 130 of the largest turbines in Australia in the Eastern Mt Lofty Ranges, near Palmer, Mt Pleasant, Tungkillo and Sanderston,” he said.
