Patrick Buckley with Pioneer Green Energy, based in Austin, Texas, gave an update on the Cherokee Rock Village and Shinbone Ridge Wind Energy project during the recent October Breakfast meeting of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.

“We have been developing a wind energy project as you know and we are in that final stage,” said Buckley. “We have been working hard up until now to put together all of the property and all the land rights that are necessary to move forward with a project like this.”

Buckley said the project would considet of seven to eight wind turbines that with three blades that would produce electricity for TVA.

“We have an agreement in place with TVA that is contingent on some of the studies that we have been doing,” said Buckley.

“We’ve procured all of those rights on titled land,” said Buckley. “So from now, we take all of these studies we have done over the past couple of years and compile it into a big report that we would then give to TVA. Here in the next couple of weeks we are going to do that and once we give the report to TVA, they then take all of these findings and take probably a few months, four to six months, I imagine, to assess these results, and then they would likely have a public meeting likely held here in Centre.”

“I am not sure what their decision is yet to do that, but it would be an opportunity for folks to come and learn about the project, and even given comment on the project however you see fit,” said Buckley.

Buckley said Pioneer Green will soon announced and exciting partnership with the

Cherokee County Board of Education on contributing some future funds to a scholarship pool and also structuring a turbine simulator for an inclass learning opportunity for the career tech center.

“That could be a pretty cool opportunity for students coming through there,” said Buckley.

“We did an economic benefits analysis with JSU and the tax revenue that would come off this project would come around around $200,000 to $300,000 a year to the county,” said Buckley. “They could use that for schools, I believe 53 percent would go to schools. It could also go toward roads and other services, so we are excited about this project and we feel like it is a something that is obviously new.”

“I know there are a lot of concerns people have asked and raised,” said Buckley.
