Protest rally on wind farms

Members from SWATT (South Wales Alternative To Turbines) joined more than 100 people from anti-wind turbine action groups for a protest rally at Cefn Coch.
The group was protesting at plans to build a 22-turbine windfarm between Carno and Cefn Coch.
A spokesman for SWATT was delighted with the turnout for the protest. He said: “The North-South divide, much talked about in the run-up to the Welsh Assembly elections, was not in evidence. Welshmen, women and children, came from the hills, the vales, villages, towns and cities from across the principality.
“They were joined by action groups from Devon and Sutherland in Scotland.”
The protesters were there to express support for their respective campaigns and to listen to naturalist David Bellamy speak.
A spokesman for SWATT said: “Mr Bellamy told the
protesters that as he travels the length and breadth of the UK, he sees ‘the devastation to our landscape and coastline that these monsters are wreaking’.
“He said he hears the growing anger and frustration among people whose lives are being devastated when the power companies arrive to root up forests, and destroy fragile habitats in the rush for wind.
“He said it is time to end ‘the great wind farm scam’ and referred to the fortunes being made by the developers who enjoy generous subsidies from the taxpayers.”
SWATT has welcomed the review of TAN8 in the new One Wales agreement, but believes new Environmental Minister Jane Davidson must take a holistic view in her proposed Wales Energy Route Map.
The group has also called on Mrs Davidson to take account of the potential damage wind turbines can do to health with vibro acoustic disease, the tourism industry, and house prices.
