Latest tactic in pushing for wind farm

Credit:  Olean Times Herald | October 7, 2013 | www.oleantimesherald.com ~~

As a Chipmonk Road property owner I continue to be amazed at the tactics used by wind supporters.

From the original illegal rezoning of property bordering my land, to the nebulous wind velocity “studies,” to the intimidation by absentee landowners toward my elderly parents, I thought I had seen it all. It’s the wind energy scam rolling merrily along in its deliberate pattern of dividing communities – Orangeville, Cohocton, Howard, Malone, all neatly mirroring the Allegany experience.

No matter that it is a foreign-owned company grasping at our precious tax dollars, no matter that wind energy is laughably low in actual energy production, no matter that the New York State Supreme Court called the company out on its dubious practices. None of this mattered. It mattered only that the Kelly family sit back and welcome outlandish, 500-foot, industrial factories as wonderful new neighbors.

It mattered only that the Kelly family obediently accept habitat destruction and plummeting property values.

But I had not seen it all. Now I am also expected to support this train wreck because area unions are in favor of the temporary jobs supposedly offered by the company! It is likely that no lasting jobs will be created for Allegany workers.

Let me remind our area unions and members of my beloved class of 1970 that I am a fellow union member – and have been since 1982. My four sisters, co-owners of the Chipmonk property, are proud, active union members.

Who does this to fellow union members? Who does this to fellow Allegany residents? Who asks Allegany to do business with a corporation that does not merit the public’s trust?
