Wellfleet Audubon director lauded on turbine reversal

I applaud Robert Prescott, director of the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, for rethinking, as reported here Sept. 19, the proposed wind turbine within the sanctuary grounds “if townspeople truly don’t want it.”
I believe the citizens of Wellfleet and surrounding communities, property owners and tourists, have made it quite clear in more than 100 letters to Mass Audubon, the Cape Cod Commission, the Wellfleet Zoning Board of Appeals and letters to the editor in various newspapers that they believe the proposed wind turbine project would be a horrendous mistake.
The very idea of constructing a 14-story-high wind turbine that can kill birds in a sanctuary designed to attract and protect birds makes absolutely no sense, especially when this sanctuary proudly touts there are 20 species of endangered and threatened species that frequent the sanctuary.
Add to that the documented loss of property values near wind turbines and, of course, the fact that those living near wind turbines often suffer from a variety of health problems, and this is a real no-brainer.
