Bellamy suffers 'personal insults' at wind farm meeting

Wind farm supporters launched ‘personal’ insults at Dr David Bellamy when he spoke at a public meeting in Skipsea.

Dr Bellamy was at Far Grange Park on Monday evening to speak about his fears about the turbines, dozens of which are planned for the East Riding.

But he was heckled by people dressed in costumes and carrying banners in support of wind farm schemes, like the one proposed at Lissett.

The vocal protestors then tried to approach the well-known conservationist while he was having a drink after the meeting, but organisers of the event said despite their actions the event was a success.

Mike McCann, managing director of Far Grange, said: “There were about 290 people there. The room was full and there were people standing. We had many locals but also people who had come from Hull and Whitby.

“I would have thought there was about 60% against wind farms, about 25% were undecided and the rest were in favour.

“David opened the discussion and then Bob Graham, chairman of Highlands Against Wind Farms spoke, and he has done phenomenal research. He exposed quite a lot about why wind farms are being pushed and how unreliable they are. They will do damage over a long period of time.

“There is nothing wrong with renewable energy but it is very expensive and we would all be better off not wasting as much energy.”
