Wind farm company acts to allay concerns about turbines

Villagers who could see a ten-turbine wind farm built on their doorsteps are being given the chance to comment on the proposals at a number of exhibitions.
E.ON UK wants to build a wind farm in Butterwick, about two miles north-east of Sedgefield village.
The site is located next to an already approved seven-turbine Walkway Wind Farm, in Butterwick Moor.

Alex Fornal, project developer for E.ON UK, said: “We’d really encourage people living near the proposed site to come out and take at look our plans and to ask us questions.
“Visitors will also get the chance to learn more about how the local community may benefit from the wind farm.
“We’re proposing the creation of a community fund that would be made available over the life of the scheme to support local projects if we got permission to build the wind farm.
“We’ll have members of staff on hand so visitors can ask any questions they may have about the development, the potential benefits for the local community or the important role that renewable energy plays in the fight against climate change.”
If approved, the wind farm could see £7m directly benefiting the local and regional economies. It could also play a substantial part in helping meet Government targets of generating 15 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2015.
The farm could generate enough electricity for about 8,500 households, almost twice the number in Sedgefield, Trimdon and Fishburn.
The wind farm would also displace the emission of 35,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.
Similar proposals for wind farms in the area have been met with strong opposition.
A year ago, EDF Energy won an appeal against Durham City Council’s refusal of four turbines between Kelloe and Trimdon.
The result was criticised by campaigners, Trimdon Action Against Wind Farms, who voiced fears about subsidence, light flicker, noise and vibrations.
The exhibitions will feature details of the proposal and will be held at Fishburn Community Centre, Fishburn, on Wednesday, September 20, from noon to 3pm, and at Trimdon Village Hall, Trimdon, on Wednesday, September 20, from 5pm to 9pm.
The exhibition will also be staged at Sedgefield Parish Hall, Sedgefield, on Thursday, September 21, from noon to 8.30pm, and at the same venue on Friday, September 22, from 9.30am to 4pm.
