Survey indicates strong opposition to windfarm

An ongoing survey to gauge public opinion about plans to build a windfarm near Auchtermuchty indicates most people are against it, a protest group has claimed.
The Auchtermuchty Landscape and Environment Group (ALE) is in the process of canvassing villagers and those in surrounding areas to see if they agree with the five-turbine windfarm proposed for close to Auchtermuchty Common.
Campaigners say that almost 80 per cent of those asked have voiced their opposition, while fewer than 10 per cent have offered their support to the project.with the remainder so far undecided.
The application from German-based firm EnergieKontor should come before councillors by the end of the year, and ALE has been relentless in its opposition to the plan since it was announced last year.
“We are extremely encouraged by the enormous groundswell of support which is being converted into real opposition to the plans to blight the landscape of Auchtermuchty and the Howe,” said Graeme Whyte, ALE’s vice-chairman.
“This should send a clear message to the developer, landowner and to our elected representatives that these monstrosities are not wanted here.”
Meanwhile, EnergieKontor’s application for a test mast in Ceres has now been lodged with Fife Council.
Given that such a submission has never been rejected it is likely the 50-metre pole will be located shortly on the outskirts of the village to see if the amount of wind is sufficient to sustain the proposed 13-turbine windfarm.
