Turbines plan hits house sales

Property sales are being affected in Dearham due to the proposed plans to erect eight wind turbines, a villager has claimed.
Novera wants to build eight 105-metre turbines near the village and it held an exhibition in the Methodist Church on Wednesday and yesterday for people to have their say. It is hoping to put in a planning application later this year. More than 200 villagers attended the exhibition.
Maria Anne Ashcroft, of Town Head, said: “I have lived here for 60 years and these turbines are absolutely ridiculous.
“Homes in Town Head have been all but sold, but buyers have pulled out because the turbines will spoil the view of our lovely countryside. These turbines will decrease the house prices over time.”
Villager Joyce Percival said: “The visual impact is beyond anyone’s imagination.
“They are going to be here for 25 years, and for a lot of people, this will mean looking at them for the rest of their lives.”
If Novera is successful with its application, the turbines could be erected by 2010.
Susannah Side, Novera project director, said: “We have chosen this site because there is space to put the turbines so they will be away from houses and there is a good wind speed.”
George Harper, of Maryport Road, Dearham, said: “This designed to mislead the community.
“The denial of adverse impact and devastation of our lives, landscape and community is unacceptable.”
Calling the farm Town Head had also upset a lot of villagers, as they claim it will not be sited there but 100 yards down the road.
