Stand by Lyme setbacks on turbines

In reference to the article of April 14 regarding the survey setbacks on wind turbines, it is amazing that we are continually expected to disregard what the majority of Lyme residents said when responding to the survey.
Now, according to Julie Gosier, the survey is worth nothing. And it seems that the hard work that the Planning Board and town board have been doing over the past year to provide the town with a fair wind law doesn’t account for anything. The survey was used as a measure to gauge the views and opinions of the public, and they have spoken.
Setbacks of 4,500 feet from the water, along with noise provisions, are necessary to protect the integrity of our shores, people’s health and property values. It seems that those most opposed to the setbacks are willing to take everything that the foreign wind companies say and promise as factual, while disregarding all the information compiled in the documented research from the United States and abroad about the negatives of industrial wind complexes built in too close proximity to people.
We can’t have our cake and eat it too. We must stand up for something or we will fall for everything – especially the selling of our community to a foreign company.
