The landscape of Lichfield could look very different in future if plans for wind turbines on the outskirts are given the green light.
Severn Trent Water announced plans for three new wind turbine sites – with two of them in the Lichfield District.
The two local sites are at Burntwood and Lichfield Sewage Treatment Works .
Severn Trent Water is the leading producer of renewable energy within the water sector and as such is progressing with its investment programme to develop greener energy.
The three potential sites have been identified as a starting point and applications have been submitted to allow wind measurement at each of them.
Severn Trent Water is also looking to develop hydro energy, energy crops as well as looking at upcoming technologies.
David Wood, Renewable Energy Development Engineer at Severn Trent Water said: “We are excited about the prospect of using wind turbines to produce electricity.We are always looking for ways to produce more energy efficient power and we have identified these three sites as feasible for our wind power scheme.
“At all stages of development we aim to provide consultation so that all parties are aware of what is being considered. To stay ahead in the sector, we need to keep raising the bar higher.”
Severn Trent Water supplies water and waste water services to over 3.7m household and business customers. Severn Trent’s aim is to produce 30percent of its own electricity by 2012-2013
