Windfarms would 'hit tourism'

Plaid Cymru last night hit out at plans to create some of the UK’s largest windfarms in North Wales, claiming they would have a devastating impact on tourism.

At a meeting in Westminster yesterday, fears were raised that controversial Gwynt y Môr proposals would ruin the landscape of the bay of Llandudno.

Cllr Phil Edwards, who will contest the Aberconwy seat in the next Assembly election, said: “This proposal has been turned down twice by the local planning authority, twice by the County Council and even the Welsh Assembly First Minister has called for a public inquiry, yet the Westminster Government seems hell bent on disregarding everybody other than its own advisors in London.

“I urge the minister to intervene. This matter should be referred to the Welsh Assembly Government for determination.”

Concerns were also raised about the Rhyl flats plans, which have been widely criticised because they are actually being built on Constables Bank, Rhos-on-Sea.
