Windfarm decision looms

A crunch decision about a windfarm will be made next week after months of bitter feuding.
Plans to build ten turbines at a site in the Vale of Belvoir go before a council committee next week which will have the final say.
A sustained campaign by Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines (Blot) has put pressure on South Kesteven District Council to reject the proposals, but planning chiefs have recommended it is given the go-ahead.
Charles Sandham chief executive of Infinergy, the company behind the scheme, said: “Following our very diligent survey work at Thackson’s Well, which has indicated this is a very good site for a wind farm, I am pleased the planning officers have recommended to the committee that the project be approved.
“This is an important opportunity for the Vale of Belvoir to make their contribution to the mitigation of the effects of climate change.”
But spokesman for Blot, Fiona Fairhurst said: “We are hopeful common sense will prevail and the plans are thrown out without even the chance to appeal. It is what the people want and have said.”
A report made by planners at the district council says none of the reasons given to oppose the turbines are good enough to prevent the development.
The decision will be made by South Kesteven Development Control Committee on Tuesday, March 11 in Grantham.
