Energy agreement good news for sustainable energy

The Danish government has landed a broad political agreement on energy which will secure planning for wind turbines on land as well as offshore.

The agreement entails planning for two phases of 75 MW on land in 2010 and 2011, and for offshore turbines generating 400 MW by 2012. These are ambitious targets, but the plan takes into account, that it can be difficult to locate new wind turbines on land.

The new incentives in the energy agreement include: a green fund, a guarantee fund, possible local joint-ownership, as well as a compensation scheme. The agreement includes a sub-agreement between the government and the Danish municipalities regulating planning for wind turbines on land
The agreement also puts a tax on emissions of nitrogen oxides which will reduce air pollution. The tax does not stand alone. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has also initiated a study of the most cost-effective tools to reduce nitrogen oxides to make it easier to reach the target.
