Moorsyde wind farm developers celebrate Scottish approvals

Developers of the proposed Moorsyde wind farm, Your Energy Ltd, have been celebrating two recent wind farm approvals.
The company have been given the go ahead to construct 15 turbines in West Lothian in conjunction with their Scottish development partners and seven turbines near Workington, Cumbria.
However, they have decided to appeal for ‘non-determination’ on their eight turbine proposal for Laughton Wind Farm in Lincolnshire which they have been developing for nearly five years. The move came after three planning committee meetings ended in councillors voting for a deferral over the past nine months.
This means the Government will now appoint a Planning Inspector to decide on the project and that it will be up to West Lindsey District Council in Gainsborough to defend their indecision.
Richard Mardon, managing director of Your Energy said “We know it is important for the councillors to have all the information in front of them, but the planning officers were happy with the information provided and had given three separate recommendations for approval.
“Our seven turbine scheme in Cumbria was recently approved after six months, and it was becoming more apparent that the councillors in Gainsborough were unable or unwilling to decide.”
Explaining the decision to appeal for ‘non-determination’, Mr Mardon added: “It is not a decision we take lightly – we prefer to work with local decision makers and the appeal process inevitably delays the project and costs both us and the council money. In this instance – the second time we have appealed against West Lindsey – we will be seeking a costs award against the council.”
The cost to the council of defending such an appeal is estimated to be in excess of £100,000.
