Wind turbine district expansion proposed

KINGSTON – Wind turbines could be built on two more parcels of land if Town Meeting votes to approve expansion of the town’s Wind Turbine Overlay District.
At a public hearing Monday night, the Kingston Planning Board considered a proposal by the Green Energy Committee to add 33 acres off Country Club Way and 3,150 square feet on the Kingston and Plymouth town line to the overlay district.
Town Planner Thomas Bott said Thorndike Development, the proponent of the 1021 Kingston’s Place smart-growth development targeted to be built next to the MBTA train station, is under contract to buy the the 33 acres between the train station and Indian Pond Estates and then give the land to the town after adding leaching fields as part of sewer expansion plans.
Wind turbines up to 400 feet can be installed on land within the Wind Turbine Overlay District, even on land as small as the 3,150 square feet of town-owned land in Kingston abutting land the town owns in Plymouth.
Bott said no action was taken by the Planning Board on a recommendation to Town Meeting. Also under consideration by the board were grammatical changes to the overlay district.
