Kommuner siger nej til kæmpe vindmøller [Communities say no to giant windmills]

60.000 jyder vil protestere i København

Communities say no to giant windmills

Most Danish communities with wind energy advise against putting up more turbines in new requirements that would double wind energy.

The vast majority of the windiest communities in Denmark dismiss the possibility that they can find sites for many more windmills.

That is the result of a survey by Politiken of the 28 communes in the country where the wind is strongest. Twenty-four of the communes answered “no” to installing the turbines that are required by the government’s view of wind energy as inexpensive. That requirement means an average of 35 new turbines in each of the windiest communities by 2025. …

The region where the wind is best is in Nord- and Vestjylland, where the western wind from the North Sea is strong. But here the political and popular opposition of their neighborsto the high turbines is extensive.

60.000 people will protest in Copenhagen

“I think that the 60.000 people who live in the town will go to Copenhagen and protest, if they are planning to put 35 giant windmills up here. It is absolutely unrealistic,” said chairman of the Frederikshavn Commune planning board John Christensen (V) to Politiken.

According to the governmental Land-Based Windmill Plan, the 28 most windy communities will see 90 percent of future windmills that go up in the government’s view that wind energy is the most inexpensive way to double renewable energy by 2025 – a goal that the government has worked with in the energy strategy from 2007.

Necessity for 1,000 new giant turbines

It is from around 1,000 extra giant windmills – with heights up to 150 meters (492 ft) – that there would be 35 giant turbines per commune. …

Venste and DF will not force communities

Energy advisor Mette Gjerskov (S) threatens a clamp-down on the communes.

“They will fall in with the clear decision from the parliament that we will count on continuing energy, and the communes will find the sites, they will – ideally on their own voluntarily, but we could compel them. The Danish Folkeparti and Venstre dismiss coercion.
