Wind mast bid is thrown out

Campaigners are celebrating after councillors voted against an application for a wind mast to be erected on the Bickerton hill near Nantwich.
Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council planning officers had advised councillors to approve the 60-metre mast, which would monitor the potential for a wind farm with turbines as tall as Blackpool Tower.
But seven councillors voted against the recommendation, which has delighted the Stop Bickerton Wind Turbines (SBWT) group.
Its chairman Mike Voisey said: “We are delighted with the good judgement of the councillors. They have obviously listened to the opinions of residents, visitors and local businesses who have overwhelmingly backed us in our opposition to the wind mast.”
The campaign group has vowed to fight on, however, as they believe applicant Banks Developments Ltd is likely to appeal.
Mr Voisey said: “We are already working on our future strategy. We are determined to fight on to save beautiful Bickerton.”
SBWT is holding a public meeting next Wednesday (February 13) at 7pm at Bickerton Village Hall to consider future action.
