Council set to oppose Auchtermuchty windfarm

Fife Council will be advised to oppose the controversial Auchtermuchty windfarm project when it considers the application for the first time today (Friday).

Today’s planning committee meeting in Glenrothes will hear the application does not include enough information about the windfarm’s effect on nearby residents.

This development comes as all parties involved in the proposal are starting to prepare for a public local inquiry by the Scottish Executive.

EnergieKontor applied last June to build a five-turbine windfarm at Rossie and later appealed to the Scottish Executive after Fife Council failed to decide on the application.

Today’s planning committee report by planner Samantha Stone recommends the reporter refuse the application “in the interests of residential amenity and due to a lack of relevant information”.

The proposed windfarm received about 420 objections and two letters of support.

The objections related to issues including road safety, noise, health and safety, visual impact and the impact on nearby properties, nature, wildlife and leisure.

An Executive spokesman said the inquiry was likely to take place in November, with a pre-inquiry hearing scheduled for August 30. Venues were still to be confirmed.
