New application for wind power in Freedom

Competitive Energy Services has reapplied for permission to erect three wind turbines on Beaver Ridge.
The town received Competitive Energy’s application to build the turbines in a thick binder delivered by Federal Express Monday evening, said Town Clerk Cindy Abbott.
The planning board is scheduled to consider the application and likely give its approval on July 12.
The planning board, following several months of debate during which the town developed a commercial development ordinance, approved Competitive Energy’s application to erect the wind turbines last winter.
A group of abutting property owners appealed the decision, however, and this spring the town’s board of appeals overturned that approval after it determined that the project could not meet the commercial development standards for noise and bonding.
Last month residents voted to repeal the commercial development ordinance, thus clearing the way for Competitive Energy to reapply for a building permit without the scrutiny of of a commercial development ordinance.
The building permit can now be issued with the recommendation of the code enforcement officer and approval from the planning board.
