Windmills will profit us not, annoy us more

As a real estate broker in this valley for 25 years, and a property owner who will be affected by this wind project proposal, I strongly object.
Don’t allow a foreign-owned energy giant to conduct an experimental wind project on our ridgelines. The sight and sounds of windmills, directly in the path of the migratory animals, birds, and bats, so important to the natural environment, will be dramatically affected. Educate yourself so you understand fully what the benefits and consequences will be.
To start, our governor has always objected to putting industrial wind projects on our state’s ridgelines because he fully understands the consequences.
It’s not worth it. The loss of our main economy, the loss of property values, the devastation of our ridgelines, and effect on our migratory bird population, are too important to cast against experimental wind projects that produce little more than they use.
Our claim to fame as a place to slough off your city madness will be gone. Like a flashing neon billboard in New York City, we will have these giant flashing wind machines, profiting us not, annoying us more, 24-hours a day, flashing red and white lights. Why would anyone want to get away to a place in Vermont where they see that never-ending show. How will we make a living, since tourism and second-homeownership are the backbone of our economy.
The Deerfield Wind Project has been around for more than 25 years and has changed foreign-owned status numerous times. The existing ownership is Spanish-based, transferring from Scotland, Italy, or Japan, I can’t remember. All energy giants taking advantage of enormous tax breaks, touting experimental development by privately-owned companies, being allowed to put these huge industrial machines in our face.
Bats, so dear to the environment now that many are dying of the unexplained White Nose disease, have recently caused two wind projects in New York State to be put on hold because of the dying bat situation.
The western plain works well for wind energy as the wind goes sweeping through the plains. The wind does not sweep over our ridgelines, it gusts and whips and stops. Very little energy is produced by the existing windmills.
