Wind turbine project goes back to Planning & Zoning

After months of controversy, a decision about the wind turbine project in the Wolverine Canyon is still up in the air.
Monday afternoon Bingham County Commissioners decided to send the project back to the Planning and Zoning committee because of a potential conflict of interest.
After last week’s public meeting, the commissioners were notified that one of the Planning and Zoning board members, Larry Kohler, owned property in the adjacent vicinity of the proposed Ridgeline Energy project.
The commissioners believe that the committee should have declared a potential conflict of interest, therefore they are putting it back in their hands for review.
Commissioner Brower said this was Mr. Kohler’s first public hearing and he believes Kohler did not have bad intentions, but may not have known all the requirements.
The Planning and Zoning committee will meet on July 9 at 7:00p.m. in a public hearing setting to discuss the situation.
The Wolverine Canyon project hopes to bring about 150 wind turbines to the area on more than 20,000 acres.
