Green faction has sold out to big business

I was truly appalled and quietly furious to read the WMN’s front page “Wind revolution gathers speed” (June 4). It appears that the number of turbines in the Westcountry is to triple. This is the tip of the iceberg.

Scotland currently has 400 wind turbine applications… and rising. It is clear that the money-grabbing power companies and the Green Party do not believe in democracy; neither do they give two hoots for our environment and wildlife.

They do not care about climate change or else they would be looking at alternative energies that actually might make a difference – instead of looking only at gravy train profits.

Nothing has changed my mind more – to support nuclear energy – than the disgraceful attitude of the Green Party which has divided communities, turned neighbour against neighbour and made enemies of people who used to be friends. When will they ever learn?

I was intrigued by the comments from Matthew Spencer, chief executive of Regen SW, that supporters of windfarms believe there is a growing public acceptance that turbines have a role to play in providing power in a renewable way.

This is wholly untrue and he knows it.

Recently, in North Devon, the Green Party put up 20 candidates for the district council. As predicted, not one candidate was elected and they came last in every ward. That’s democracy – and that’s what the overwhelming majority of people in North Devon think of turbines. They don’t want them!

Note well. George Monbiot, of the Green Party and FoE’s green guru, who was a firm supporter of wind turbines, has now done a complete U-turn and now is against them. Possibly because he now lives in Wales and has to live among these bird-slicing, noisy, money-making environmental disasters. I genuinely believe that the Green Party and FoE have now “sold out” to big business, and as a former member of both, it saddens me greatly.
