Five new turbines could be added to a six-windmill development near Thurso.
Developer RES is to start public consultation on the extension to Forss Wind Farm, which is sited on a former US Navy radio station.
The project already generates electricity for more than 3,700 homes, and the extension would add up to 5,000 more households to its capacity.
RES also contributes funds to local communities and has so far paid for new Christmas lights and a swim camp.
Exhibitions about the proposal will be on display at Caithness Horizons visitor centre in Thurso on 25 and 26 August.
Project manager Alan Macintyre said the company hoped to submit a planning application in the early autumn.
