Joining challenge too costly

Lambton County legal staff is recommending the county not get involved in what has been deemed a “precedent-setting” charter challenge against industrial wind turbines.
A committee learned this morning that the cost of joining such litigation is estimated at $50,000.
In the report, county solicitor David Cribbs refers to a case in Kitchener dating back to 2005 when it cost them over $30,000 to become an intervener. He says if you adjust for inflation it’s reasonable to suggest the cost to the county would be at least $50,000.
Anti-wind turbine groups have asked the county to get involved in Shawn and Trish Drennan’s legal case. They’re seeking an injunction against expanding the K-2 wind farm in the Goderich-area, until a federal health study on impacts is complete.
The group said it would only cost $20,000 but Cribbs says that is an exceptionally low price tag.
Cribbs says according to Huron County’s records they have never been asked for financial support.
A final decision will be made at county council on Oct 2nd.
