Windfarm gets go-ahead

Plans for a seven-turbine windfarm near Workington have been approved by Allerdale council.
Winscales Moor Windfarm Ltd was granted permission to build the 81-metre high turbines at Benedict Plantation, Winscales, at a meeting on Tuesday.
There are already 11 turbines next to the proposed location.
The windfarm company, Your Energy, said the turbines would generate electricity for 4,000 homes for 25 years.
Ninety-six letters of support for the plans were sent to Allerdale council, as well as a 149-name petition in favour of the scheme.
There were 19 letters of objection, on the grounds of noise pollution, the effect on the landscape and the impact on the area.
Agent for Your Energy, Matt Kelly, said the site is perfect for a windfarm.
He added: “We have taken great care to make sure the proposal will be seen as a single windfarm.”
He said it would provide many jobs, create money for community and bring Allerdale closer to meeting clean energy targets.
The windfarm will be visible from three miles away, including from some places in Workington as well as from the edges of Great Clifton, Seaton and Camerton.
A report by council officers said: “It is to be accepted that this proposal will have an adverse impact.
“Following on from that, consideration must be given to the fact that it is close to an existing large windfarm and much of that impact already occurs.”
Cumbria County Council did raise objections, but the report said the council had to note the level of support for the plans.
