Fight against wind turbine is continuing

A local councillor is fighting a plan to site a 56 metre high wind turbine at Blackcastle Hill in the Innerwick area near Dunbar.
The Dunbar Community Development Company has appealed to Scottish Ministers against East Lothian Council’s decision to refuse consent for the structure on Blackcastle Hill.
The 500kW wind turbine would be wholly community owned with all profits being disbursed through a community investment fund for the Dunbar and East Linton ward. It is estimated that around £4 million would be available for local projects over the 20 year life of the turbine.
Councillor Michael Veitch, Conservative member for Dunbar and East Linton, has written to the Directorate for Planning Appeals making the case as to why the council’s decision should not be overturned. His strong objection stated that the application was opposed by East Lammermuir Community Council following a survey of local residents which showed the majority of local people who responded were against the wind turbine.
Councillor Veitch said the plan was rejected by a unanimous vote of the planning committee in May with 14 in favour of refusal and none against.
He explained that the site lay within the Lammermuir Hills Area of Great Landscape Value and was very close to the Oldhamstocks Conservation Area.
