Saugeen Shores calls on CAW to shut down turbine

Saugeen Shores council is calling on the Canadian Auto Workers union to stop its Port Elgin wind turbine.

Council is formally requesting that the turbine be shut down out of concern for human health after six people came forward to describe changes in their health since the wind turbine went into operation in March.

Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau says the CAW made a promise that it would ensure the wind turbine would not impact human health and the only way to make sure that it no longer does so is for the turbine to be shut down.

David Shemilt lives on Shipley Avenue about 550-metres from the turbine and he fought back tears as he described his children being unable to sleep while the turbine is operating.

Shemilt says the way to stop more people from being hurt by wind turbines is to vote Ontario’s Liberal Party out of office during the next provincial election.
