Work will disturb nesting birds

Representatives of STIER (Stop Turbines in East Riding), of Manor Farm, Gransmoor, write . . .
We are concerned that preparatory investigation work has started on the Lissett wind farm site, although the RSPB recommended that no work should take place during the bird breeding season which normally finishes at the end of July.
At present we have observed three companies on site which we are informed are drilling 12 bore holes, five metres deep and taking ground samples to obtain soil details. The work is expected to take some time.
We have been informed by the wind farm development company, Novera, that this work lies outside the 106 legal agreement which is still being drawn up.
We understand that an ERYC enforcement officer has also been on site to make observations.
Novera’s ecologist has been on site along with a representative from Natural England.
This preparatory work in itself will disturb ground nesting birds such as marsh harriers, partridge, plovers, skylarks, lapwings etc., which are present on this site.
This makes the implementation of a clause in the 106 agreement protecting ground nesting birds during their breeding season somewhat of a farce as damage will already have been done.
