Protest march planned against Belford wind farm

The action group opposing plans for a wind farm at Belford Burn is staging a protest event on Sunday, August 18 at midday.

The protest by the Middleton Burn Action Group is designed to highlight the most contentious aspects of Energiekontor’s recently submitted plans, such as the proposed access route for the delivery of the turbines.

The size of transporters required will be replicated by protesters carrying 2+ metre boards. This will require a minimum of 46 people to simulate the size (the length of 4 double decker buses and the width of two).

The protest will move down Belford North Bank and attempt to turn right onto the B6349 (West Street).

This route would involve the removal of trees, safety bollards and planter boxes at Belford’s Market Square and the removal of recently installed traffic calming measures in West Street.

Kerry Noble, vice chairman of Middleton Burn Action Group, said: “Anyone wishing to show their opinion of this most inappropriate proposal are invited to join us at the top of North Bank/junction of Cragmill Road, Belford.”
