ISO takes issue with Shumlin’s comments over wind

Last week, Gov. Peter Shumlin wrote to the head of ISO-New England, expressing concern that the entity that controls power for New England was ordering Green Mountain Power to curtail its wind power production while increasing its fuel-powered production.

This week, ISO-New England wrote back. President Gordie van Welie said pretty much the same stuff ISO told reporters last week and takes umbrage with the suggestion by Shumlin that ISO isn’t taking renewable energy to heart.

“On Friday, the 19th, the peak day for that week, the ISO curtailed KCW (Kingdom Community Wind) to avoid operating the transmission system unreliably. … In this case, curtailing KCW actually allowed more power to be supplied from other renewable resources in the area and not older fossil-fueled generation as your letter suggests,” van Welie said.
