Grange Moor residents fight farmer’s wind turbine plan

Residents have opposed a farmer’s plan to install two wind turbines.

Grange Moor farmer Stuart Searby has applied to Kirklees Council for permission to erect a pair of 25m (75ft) tall turbines on his land at Grange Ash Farm, just off Wakefield Road, to the rear of the Kaye’s Arms pub.

Documents submitted to planners reveal the National Coal Mining board has opposed the application.

An environmental report from Kirklees Council says the turbines are less than a quarter of a mile from some residential properties, including Gardener’s Cottage Garden, Shuttle Eye Way and Denby Lane Garden.

But it says previous installations of this type of turbine have proved to be very quiet and therefore there are no environmental health impacts.

But members of Grange Moor Community Association and some residents from the nearby housing estate have vowed to fight the plan.

Association member Ray Franks said: “This is the second time there’s been an application for turbines.

“We were successful at over-turning a similar scheme in the area in 2010.

“These turbines are 110ft tall (to the tip of the blades) and are very very close to housing – closer than the last proposal. They are totally inappropriate.”

Public consultation on the application closes on Thursday .
